an active member of the Golfing Society, becoming Captain and President
- Peter Whiteside

Born Samuel Edward Orr on 10th March 1941 near Augher in south Tyrone, Eddie was schooled locally before attending Queen’s University, Belfast where he read History, which he much enjoyed.

Upon graduation he joined the Ford Motor Company in Dagenham. He arrived in London Irish in 1963 playing for the Wild Geese and the A’s. In his latter years he turned out for Des Egan’s famous B XV and fitted admirably into that team’s unique culture.

After a short period in Scotland Eddie returned to London to work for Renault where he became their UK Commercial Manager. This helped him to speak French like a native. It was at Renault that he met his wife Alannah. They had three children, Cormac, Gillian and Niall and have 4 grandchildren, all of whom Eddie was immensely proud.

Following his retirement from rugby Eddie took up golf where he was an active member of the Golfing Society, becoming Captain and President. He was a great tourist and his quick wit and knowledge of history became his trade mark. He never forgot his early roots in County Tyrone, and much enjoyed recounting the local stories and folklore of his birthplace.

He died on 9th June after a short illness.

He will be greatly missed by his many friends in Ireland, England and Australia.
