Battersea Ironsides U7s have 21 registered girl players, the squad has proudly fielded all-girl teams at every U7 festival they have entered in the 2025-26 season. Having spent much of the year competing against predominantly boys' teams, it was a real highlight to see London Irish arrive with an all-girl side.

Although the two teams were not originally scheduled to meet, some last-minute fixture changes ensured the girls had the opportunity to play each other. Both teams were excited to play each other and even before the match friendships were being formed. A great example of what rugby is all about.

Together since their U6 season, these young players come from five different schools but have formed strong bonds both on and off the pitch. Their enthusiasm, teamwork, respect and determination embody the core values of rugby, and they continue to be fantastic ambassadors for both the club and the game.

We are incredibly proud of our girls rugby program at London Irish – an area of the club we are really keen to grow and develop further.

The Mini’s girls section is a great example of this; none more so than last season’s U6s & 7s where the girls worked really hard all year and we grew the numbers so we could field an all girl’s squad at our end of season festival.

It came as no surprise to anyone that the girls were amazing and did themselves and the club proud! Not only are they a very talented group but also brilliant ambassadors for the club – the highlight being an all girls fixture against our local rivals Battersea Ironsides. As their Coach Charlie highlights – the friendships being formed and teamwork on display is what we love to see at the club!
