There’s something special about seeing a journey come full circle, and that’s exactly what we’re witnessing with Josh Taylor. From his early days pulling on the shirt at London Irish as a mini and youth player, to earning his place in the academy, Josh has consistently shown what it means to commit to the process. He didn’t skip steps, he didn’t look for shortcuts, he just kept turning up, learning, and improving.

Balancing rugby with his studies at Brunel University London, Josh made a smart and brave move to continue his development with Ealing Trailfinders in the Championship. That environment is tough, uncompromising, and demands resilience week in, week out. It’s where players either find another level within themselves, or get left behind. Josh found that level. Through drive, determination, and sheer dedication, he proved he belonged. Going into play for the Scotland Under 20 team too!

Now, signing with Northampton Saints in the Premiership is more than just the next step, it’s a statement. It tells every young player coming through that the pathway works if you do. That hard work, consistency, and belief don’t go unnoticed. This isn’t luck; this is earned.

What makes it even better is the kind of person Josh is. He’s a genuinely good lad, grounded, respectful, and always willing to put the team first. He comes from a fantastic family with Nigel and Lynsey, both huge Irish supporters and Nigel taking on coaching duties here for years, all the way thru Colts, these qualities matter. Talent might get you noticed, but character keeps you moving forward, and Josh has both in abundance.

For every young player watching his journey, take note: this is what it looks like when effort meets opportunity. Stay patient, stay committed, and back yourself. Josh Taylor has set the standard, and it’s one all of us at Irish are proud he did.
