This Saturday, our London Irish Wild Geese play Guildford in what's looking like it's going to be another game for the neutrals. Guildford coming off the back of a 61-26 win against Salisbury, and the Geese having scored 84 points in the first two games. This will surely be another high scoring game.
London Irish haven't overcome Guildford since September 2019 where we ran out 43-19 winners at home. A lot has changed in the four years since then, as the Geese have lost the last three meetings between the two sides.
Our record against Guildford so far is 4 wins, 6 losses and the average points per game coming in at 20-32 to Guildford.
There is some hope for the Irish however if the last few lines have seemed a bit daunting, in that this Geese squad this year seem a lot more sure of themselves compared to recent seasons. The additional support from the pros fans, the confidence that the players have in each other, the attacking and defensive systems implemented by Ryan Gregory, Louis Flynn and Matt Cornish. Whatever it is, there is something unexplainably special about this team. Having overturned both Farnham and Chichester (two sides who had similar records against us) the Geese are on the rise. Come fly with us this Saturday.
This weekend's game is kindly sponsored by club legend Mr. Joseph Byrne, chair of men's rugby, lifelong London Irish fan and proud Offaly man. Joe is the backbone of the Geese and Wanderers squad and along with Trevor Johnson, they have put together a fantastic sporting programme to provide the senior squad with everything they could need this season. Despite this Herculean undertaking, Joe still wishes to show more support for the club by sponsoring our gameday this weekend.
