Pat is sorely missed by his wife Anne, his children Claire & Peter, his son-in-law Tim and grand-children Diarmuid and Aidan, brothers, sisters nieces and nephews. Pat had been ill for some time but in the early Summer was well enough to enjoy a family holiday in France. Sadly on return his health deteriorated and he died on Saturday, 27 September.
Pat was the eldest of nine children who grew up in Mitcham. His parents hailed from Ballinrobe and Doohoma Head and Pat had a lifelong interest in all things to do with Mayo.
Pat started supporting London Irish teams when his younger brothers, Eamonn and Seamus played for the U21s in 1980. His ardent support continued when his brothers played for the adult men's teams and later when his son Peter and nephews Eamonn and Ruaridhi played youth and adult rugby. If a Flannery was playing for London Irish then Pat was invariably there, if a Flannery wasn't playing he was there anyway, supporting the 1st team and with the advent of professionalism he supported the Wild Geese.
His favorite touchline saying was "Don't just look at him, he's no oil painting"
