London Irish Amateur RFC are delighted to announce Rory Harrison as Club Captain for the 2020/21 Season. Rory joined the Wild Geese for last season from the famous Randwick club in Sydney and was an ever present in the front row, impressing with his uncompromising play yet gentlemanly conduct post-match.
Rory is an Ulsterman and attended Methodist College in Belfast where he was part of the Schools Cup winning side in 2009. He gained international representative honours playing for Ireland at Schools, U19s and University level. Studying at UCD from 2011 -14 Rory gained further silver wear including two U21 All Ireland Cups, the Leinster Senior Cup and twice playing in the annual Colours Match. He has also represented Terenure College RFC and Belfast Harlequins RFC.
Of his appointment Chris Magowan said “Rory is the type of guy you build a side around, he bought into the London Irish ethos early and it was a pleasure to have him in the side, his family supported Rory and the Wild Geese, typifying the atmosphere we wish to build. We are well known for open rugby and our attacking style but that is only made possible when you have a hard edge up front and can dominate the opposition in the set piece. He will demand honesty and hard work from his teammates and will work well with our newly appointed coaching team”.
Rory added “It is a privilege to be appointed Captain of the Wild Geese and of the amateur club at London Irish, we had an unlucky end to last season and it is really important we all pull together in London 1, especially in light of the uncertain times ahead for rugby. Its an opportunity for the team and new coaching staff for a fresh start. We are an ambitious group who want to win rugby matches and have fun doing so. London Irish has traditions we wish to build on and help create a one club culture”.
