Mary Fyfe, Director of Ladies Rugby and Ant Braithwaite, Head Coach are delighted to confirm Sophie Messem into the role of Captain for the season ahead. “We are very confident that Sophie is the right choice for this role, she has proven her loyalty and dedication to the team over the last 2 seasons in her actions on and off the field, and her professionalism, athleticism and ambition are second to none".
Sophie is entering her third season with the Emeralds and has given 100% as a player since joining. She's enjoyed consecutive promotions with the Emeralds over the last two seasons but equally she has witnessed and contributed to the incredible effort and work ethic it has required to make that happen.
Sophie is deservedly respected by the entire squad and will be further supported by the Player Leadership Team announced last evening as, Hari McCormack, Jemma Smith, Vicky Leigh and Beth Statham. This team of five formidable Ladies are up for whatever the season throws at them and they bring a renewed and revitalised energy to what is an already progressive and ambitious squad.
The Emeralds have a tough season ahead, the management are confident in the depth of talent and now leadership they have put in place to answer whatever they encounter in the coming weeks and months.
