Amy Reynolds has been a formidable presence on the rugby field for the past eight years, beginning her journey at Amesbury Rugby Club and now with the London Irish Emeralds. Initially seeking a new challenge, she quickly discovered her passion for rugby, immersing herself in the club's community and forging lifelong friendships on the muddy pitches. This foundation set the stage for her transition to the more competitive environment of The London Irish Emeralds, a pivotal moment that pushed her beyond her comfort zone and honed her skills.

The move to a higher standard of rugby was not without its challenges. Every training session became a trial, surrounded by ambitious players who fuelled her drive to improve. The stakes were high, with each team spot earned through hard work and dedication. This competitive atmosphere demanded more from Amy, technically, physically, and mentally, making every achievement feel even more rewarding.

Balancing her rugby commitments with her responsibilities in the Army has presented its own set of challenges. However, Amy has found that the discipline, mental toughness, and camaraderie essential in Army life complement her performance on the rugby field. Her daily routine emphasises time management, especially with the upcoming International Defence Rugby Competition (IDRC) on the horizon, where every moment counts. The culmination of her efforts was evident when she stepped onto the pitch at Twickenham, facing the Navy in a match that was nothing short of surreal.

The British Army squad saw players from the Emeralds play at Twickenham, with players such as Amy Reynolds, Sarah Batley, Jade Mullen, Manuqalo Komaitai, Charlotte Tweddle, Jokaveti Luveitasau and India King.

The atmosphere was electric says Amy, and the honour of representing not just herself, but the entire Army and all women who came before her, filled every moment with purpose and pride. Winning at such an iconic venue solidified her commitment to the sport and her team.

As the IDRC approaches, Amy's training intensifies, focusing on teamwork, adaptability, and decision-making under pressure. The support from coaches and teammates is crucial, ensuring she can balance her military duties with her aspirations in rugby. Within the Army women’s rugby squad, a culture of unity and mutual support prevails. The bonds formed extend beyond the field, fostering a family-like environment that empowers each member to excel.

Military training has instilled in Amy a profound sense of discipline and resilience qualities vital on the rugby field. The rigorous routines and high standards have shaped her approach to the game, driving her to strive for excellence alongside her teammates. In high-stress moments during matches, Amy draws on the mental resilience cultivated through military drills, maintaining composure and focus.

Amy expresses deep gratitude for the support from The London Irish Emeralds, which has created an environment where service members are celebrated for their unique experiences. The club’s commitment to accommodating her military responsibilities allows her to thrive in both arenas.

Moreover, the military community plays a foundational role in supporting women’s rugby, fostering a culture that values discipline, teamwork, and resilience. Amy hopes to inspire future generations of female athletes and leaders, breaking barriers and chasing dreams in both sports and military service.

Amy Reynolds’s story serves as an inspiration to young women pursuing excellence in sports, demonstrating that with hard work and support, it is possible to excel in multiple demanding arenas simultaneous
