Meet Jo Holmes, a determined and dynamic figure in the rugby world whose journey reflects an enduring love for the sport.Jo’s rugby career began with selection from the prestigious Welbeck Military College team into the England Under 19s programme, leading to representation at both England U19S and later England Students Squad.
Her ascent was halted during trials for the full England squad when a cruciate ligament tear forced an unexpected hiatus. Jo turned toward academic ambition, earning a degree in Civil Engineering while later embracing life as a military spouse. In 2009, she married a soldier and spent years building a career and family while moving across the globe.
Jo’s love for rugby was reignited when she had the opportunity to play some touch rugby and coach at a local Club and after a remarkable 14-year break from contact rugby, Jo’s arm was twisted to return with the Farnham Falcons in 2023.
Jo may have started playing rugby before some of her teammates were born, but she enjoys passing down the same values of resilience and teamwork that shaped her early career.
Her story is one of quiet strength and revival, proving that passion for sport can evolve, endure, and inspire across generations.
Jo continues to build an inclusive rugby community where commitment, growth, and family are at the heart of the game.
